Vintage

Good budburst and early spring rainfall saw a good beginning to the season. However a very cool late November and December slowed the growth of the vines and created a long flowering period and variable fruit set resulting in below average crop sizes.  An extreme heat event occurred in early February with temperatures in the mid 40’s culminated in the Black Saturday bushfires.  The extreme heat resulted in some crop loss due to sunburn and water stress.  The overall cooler season resulted in lower yields and high quality concentrated fruit.

Wine Notes
Season 2009 was slightly cooler than 2008 and 2007 with harvest occurring 2 weeks later.

This wine has Paringa’s typical complex bouquet of dark cherries, spice and subtle savoury new oak characters. On the palate there is powerful dark cherry/black fruit flavours well integrated with the spicy savoury French oak characters. The fine grain tannins provide weight and structure to the wine. This is an elegant Paringa pinot that will reward careful cellaring.
